Get ready for fall with these home cleaning tips

Autumn Home Cleaning Tips
Get ready for the colder months with these cleaning tips.

When you think of a deep clean, namely a spring cleaning, you may consider
it as a rare annual event. A thorough home clean where you pull everything
apart, get into those nooks and crannies, and hope it will last a year or so.
Right? Sorry to burst your bubble, but one spring cleaning a year simply isn’t
enough! Between having guests visit, leaving doors open, pets and kids running
in from the backyard, and cooking up a storm, a deep home clean is something
you should do AT LEAST twice per year.

Spring cleaning may be the standard “time to clean” by which most homes go,
but we’re thinking an additional yearly cleaning for the fall is a good
routine. In the spring, we’re preparing our houses for the arrival of warmer
weather and all the fun that comes with it. As fall is upon us, it may be time
to hit the reset button for the cooler weather about to come

If you can’t bring yourself to clean during the sweltering months, now is
the perfect time! Sweep away the summer mess and prepare your home for the
chilly winter days inside, with these easy autumn cleaning tips:

Clean your roof gutters

Fallen autumn leaves are a beautiful thing, until they build up in your roof
gutter. Not only do they collect dust and look unsightly, too many can be
dangerous! Blocked down pipes cause havoc with leaks into the ceiling cavity,
and dry leaves pose as a fire hazard. Best to dispose of leaves before it
rains, otherwise, once sloshy wet and decomposed, you’ll be asking yourself:
“Why didn’t I do this sooner?”

Time to Organize

Between the kids being home, trips to the beach and pool, and everyone
spending more time playing in the backyard, there’s a very good chance your
home has been overtaken with summer “stuff.” As the kids are back to school,
take the time to inventory all pool and beach gear. If anything is damaged and
not worth being repaired, throw it away. Wash any towels and swimsuits and
store them in airtight tubs or space saver bags. Corral all outdoor gear
(bikes, sports equipment, etc.) into its own area and make sure to clean
everything off. (This keeps the equipment in good shape and free of insect
nests!)

Grab your dusters

From BBQ’s in the backyard, to leaving windows open to enjoy the cool
evening breeze, a lot of dust makes its way inside during summer.  A
thorough dust of your home is needed, starting with ceiling fixtures, walls,
windows, baseboards and then the floor.  Make sure you dust in this order!
The other way around, you’ll be ruining all the hard work you’ve just done!

Your carpet

With all the time being spent outside, the outdoors will inevitably make
their way in. Your carpets have likely collected a wide variety of stains,
smells, and germs, and are shouting for a good thorough cleaning! With the kids (our mess makers) back to the classroom, now is the perfect time to hire a professional
carpet cleaning service. Here at Carpet Dryclean, our technicians will work to
have the job completed before the school bus shows up. With our unique dry
cleaning process, your carpets will look like new and be ready for use again
sooner, since we use NO WATER unlike the traditional carpet cleaning
techniques. We can also give your oriental rugs and upholstery a thorough
cleaning!

Get washing

Pretty sure we’ve all been in this situation: laundry is done, and very
shortly after, it starts raining for a week. The laundry eventually dries but
has this damp, pasty texture all over. Whether its floor mats, dog beds or
blankets, try to wash now the items which are harder to dry in the cooler months.

Clean the kitchen

Gross Alert! Preparing a salad on a toilet seat is likely to attract fewer
bacteria than if you make it over a chopping board. The kitchen is one of the
dirtiest, germ infested rooms in your home and must be cleaned regularly, regardless
of the season.  Disinfect the sink and bench top; wipe clean the microwave
and deep scrub grease from the oven. And don’t forget to sort your pantry
properly! Dispose of all old foods, and store opened contents in airtight
containers.

Get Everyone on Board

Once you’ve taken the time to organize and clean, you don’t want all your
hard work to go to waste! Attack school clutter before it has a chance to
settle in by hanging up hooks for backpacks, coats, and sports gear, and
creating inviting and focused areas for homework time. Keep your organization
simple so everyone can get on board and keep things clean.

Say goodbye to summer with as little stress as possible this year! Get a
